Safety Tips:

Pennsylvania State Law prohibits the use of Consumer (formally Class C) fireworks.
This law is enforced by the PA State Police as well as local Law Enforcement.
While this is the case, Farrell Fire Dept. would like to point out a few safety tips
for those "non-law abiding" citizens of the district, however it is suggested and
recommended that residents search areas that will have legal fireworks displays.

Here are some tips on the handling and use of fireworks from The National
Council on Fireworks Safety, the Consumer Product Safety Commission to
ensure that you and your family will have a safe holiday.

·*       Read and follow all warnings and instructions.

*     Use common sense, and make sure there is a responsible adult.
Responsible means someone who hasn’t been drinking alcohol.

*      Don’t hold sparklers, nor run around with them. Instead, put them in the
ground.  You shouldn’t run around with sparklers.

*      Don’t put any type of fireworks or flammables near children. Sparklers can
get as hot as 2,000 degrees.

*     Be sure other people (especially children) and pets are out of range before
lighting fireworks.

*    Only light fireworks in a cool place, on a smooth, flat surface away from the
house, dry leaves and flammable materials. Never carry fireworks in your
pocket.

*    Never relight fireworks that have not fully functioned or light one that looks
defective.

*    Keep a bucket of water handy, and soak used fireworks for at least 10
minutes after igniting.

*     Wear safety goggles while handling pyrotechnics.

*     Never ignite fireworks in metal or glass containers.

*     Never throw or aim fireworks at people or buildings.
